Bowers Decoration and Picnic

Every year, the last Sunday in May, we have decoration for the Bowers' family that are buried at Alder Branch Baptist Church in Sevier County.  First, we go to the cemetery and we get a lesson on who is buried where (we found several new ones yesterday). We then go for a picnic at Douglas Lake.  It is totally a day of eating too much and relaxing a lot with our family that we don't spend a lot of time with - even though most of us live within  few miles of each other.

Elizabeth (Lib) is the matriarch of the family now.  We lost three of her siblings, or siblings-in-law, within a one year period - Wilma, Dorothy, Joe, and also her spouse, Stanley.  With those losses we are greatly saddened but find joy in all the additions to the family in the last couple of years as well.   There seemed to be kids EVERYWHERE.

And ones who continue to act like kids...

Regardless of which generation we are in, we have ALL played in the faucet.  When you are 4 or 5 years old, that is the right of passage.  We have all laid on the blankets, played kick ball and volleyball, and taken a walk to the dam.

And every year when we leave we are tired, full, and can't wait to come back next year.
